From Coulomb excitation cross sections to non-resonant astrophysical rates in three-body systems: 17^{17}Ne case

    Get PDF
Coulomb and nuclear dissociation of 17^{17}Ne on light and heavy targets are studied theoretically. The dipole E1 strength function is determined in a broad energy range including energies of astrophysical interest. Dependence of the strength function on different parameters of the 17^{17}Ne ground state structure and continuum dynamics is analyzed in a three-body model. The discovered dependence plays an important role for studies of the strength functions for the three-body E1 dissociation and radiative capture. The constraints on the [s2]/[d2][s^2]/[d^2] configuration mixing in 17^{17}Ne and on pp-wave interaction in the 15^{15}O+pp channel are imposed based on experimental data for 17^{17}Ne Coulomb dissociation on heavy target.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figure

Indirect reporting. The role of the sentence structure in indirect reporting by L2 speakers

    Get PDF
Currently research into indirect reporting in bilingual speech production is considered important because: a) indirect reporting involves work of cognitive, pragmatic and linguistic mechanisms in L2 speaker, thus reveals different mechanisms of language acquisition; b) indirect reporting is considered to be one of the most challenging tasks for L2 speakers; c) understanding of these obstacles could enable L2 teachers to foster language proficiency skills in L2 learners more effectively. There is a growing body of literature that looks into the relationship between the original utterance and the report, logical and inferential structure of indirect reports, the role of semantic and pragmatic factors in shaping indirect reports. Most of the studies have been based on examples and data in the English language, where subjects of research were bilinguals with the English language as L2 and various mother tongues L1. The central thesis of this paper is that L2 learners tend to overcomplicate the structure of a sentence in indirect reporting. This study therefore set out to assess the structure of indirect reports by bilingual speakers and determine possible reasons for overcomplicating of sentence structure. In addition, this study provides an opportunity to advance our knowledge of L2 acquisition

The article was submitted on 12.03.2022. В XVIII в. This article deals with the management of missionary activity in Alaska in the late eighteenth – nineteenth centuries. The main objective is to reconstruct the management strategy of the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska with reference to archival documents and published sources. The research methodology relies on analysing the regional approach, where the region is perceived both as an object and a subject of empire-building. In the eighteenth century, the management of Alaska was carried out by the Shelikhov – Golikov Company, a Russian fur trading venture. The Russian merchants fully supplied the Orthodox mission consisting of monks. Later, the Russian authorities entrusted control over the Russian overseas lands to Shelikhov’s heirs, represented by the Russian-American Company. The conflicts between the colonial administration and the missionaries called for a new strategy, i. e. sending secular clergy to Alaska. Meanwhile, the Management of the Russian-American Company returned to the plans of G. Shelikhov, who knew the region well, unlike the metropolitan authorities.Исследование осуществлено в рамках Программы фундаментальных исследований НИУ ВШЭ. Автор выражает благодарность Е. М. Nurse-administered injections come with a special set of risks, including such pharmaceutical factors as preparation of medicinal products in a vial prior to administration, conditions of their further storage, labelling of packages, and the need for personalised dosing of solutions for injection. The aim of the study was to analyse Russian state standard GOST R 52623.4-2015 and identify factors contributing to the risk of nursing staff’s errors in preparing, storing, and labelling of medicinal products for injection.Materials and methods. The authors analysed GOST R 52623.4-2015 Technologies for Performing Simple Medical Services of Invasive Interventions and assessed the identified risks by the FMEA method (failure modes and effects analysis).Results. The authors identified pharmaceutical risks, causes, and sources of hazardous events that occur during administration of parenteral medicinal products. The standard does not instruct readers on the order of mixing medicines in a vial and on choosing solvents for lyophilised powders. There is no labelling procedure for opened vials in the document. It does not stress the inadmissibility of pre-administration storage of a syringe/dropper with a medicinal product. The document lacks information on the need to warm the aqueous solutions that are stored in a refrigerator and/or administered at a temperature of 36–38 °С as per the package leaflet. The standard does not include a procedure for visual estimation of the volume of a solution drawn into a syringe for individual dosing of medicinal products to children. According to the FMEA risk assessment, the highest risks are posed by the order of mixing medicines in a vial and by the storage of syringes/droppers prior to administration to patients.Conclusions. To improve the safety of injection therapy, it is necessary to supplement the state standard with the identified causes of hazardous events. Nursing staff in medical organisations would benefit from in-house training on prevention of pharmaceutical risks carried out with the help of specialists in pharmaceutics and from wider involvement in discussing pharmacotherapy errors

The first Russian female soil scientist

The year 2021 is marked by the 175-th anniversary of the birth of Anna Egorovna and Vasiliy Vasilievich Dokuchaevs. This is a wonderful occasion to recall an amazing and remarkably modest woman who played an important role in the life and work of the great Russian natural scientist, the founder of genetic soil science. If many works were written about her outstanding world-wide known husband, films were made, pictures were created, his photos are preserved, then the life of his wife is undeservingly poorly described, and the appearance of this very beautiful woman is depicted in the only one famous portrait. This article, dedicated to the memory of Anna Egorovna Dokuchaeva, is based on both the quotations from the already published memoirs of the follower and the friend of V.V. Dokuchaev – Franz Yulievich Levinson-Lessing, and the excerpts from Anna Egorovna’s letters to Varvara Ippolitovna – the wife of F.Yu. Levinson-Lessing. These letters were collected from the archives of the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and copied by the employee of the V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute – Sergey Petrovich Lyalin – in the 1980s, and they are now kindly provided by the Central Soil Museum by V.V. Dokuchaev (the Branch of the Federal Research Centre “V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute” in St. Petersburg)

Objective of the work was to determine protective potential and safety for animals of the naturally attenuated B. anthracis 363/11 monoplazmid non-capsular strain to be used as a new candidate vaccine strain for the development and enhancement of specific prophylaxis of anthrax. Materials and methods. Vaccine strain 55-VNIIVViM that is used for welfare provision as regards anthrax in animals in the territory of Russia was employed for the comparison of protective properties. Identification of LD50, ImD50 and protective efficacy was carried out using standard protocols for modeling the infection on laboratory (white mice, guinea pigs) and targeted (sheep) animals. Results and conclusions. It is established that avirulent for white mice B. anthracis 363/11 strain demonstrates higher protective and immunogenic activity than 55-VNIIVViM strain. It does not reverse to the virulent variant after passaging on the nutrient media and in the organism of susceptible animals. Thus it allows for considering B. anthracis 363/11 strain as a promising candidate vaccine strain, the utilization of which will improve epizootic situation on anthrax in the Russian Federation
